One of history’s most unusual scams involved a man who managed to convince buyers that he could sell the Eiffel Tower. Using documents and confidence, he created a believable situation that led to a successful deal.

After leaving the country, he realized there had been no immediate pursuit. Taking advantage of that, he returned and repeated the same plan again, targeting new victims with a similar approach.

The story remains a striking example of deception and human trust. It highlights how confidence and timing can sometimes influence decisions, even in situations that seem impossible.

This man performed open-heart surgery... after reading a textbook for 10 minutes.

Meet Ferdinand Demara, the "Great Impostor."

Most con men steal money. Ferdinand stole lives. All because he was bored.

Over his career, he impersonated a monk, a prison warden, a philosophy professor, and a civil engineer.

But his most insane con happened during the Korean War.

He stole the credentials of a doctor named Joseph Cyr and joined the Canadian Navy as the ship’s surgeon.

He had zero medical training.

Everything was fine until 16 soldiers were brought on board with critical combat wounds.

They needed immediate surgery, or they would die.

Ferdinand didn't panic. He told the nurses to prep the patients, then he ran to his cabin.

He cracked open a medical textbook, speed-read the chapter on chest surgery, and memorized the diagrams thanks to his near-photographic memory.

Then... he walked back out and performed the surgeries. Successfully.

In fact, he saved all 16 lives.

He became a war hero and the press loved him.

But that fame was his downfall. The real Dr. Joseph Cyr saw his own name in the newspaper and called the Navy.

Ferdinand was dishonorably discharged, but the Navy didn't press charges.
