Terah and His Immediate Family

Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

“When Terah had lived 70 years, he fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran.”Genesis 11:26 (ESV)

Haran was the father of Lot.

“Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran fathered Lot.”Genesis 11:27 (ESV)

Haran died before Terah in the land of his birth, Ur of the Chaldeans.

“Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his kindred, in Ur of the Chaldeans.”Genesis 11:28 (ESV)

Terah took Abram, Lot, and Sarai and went from Ur of the Chaldeans toward the land of Canaan, settling in Haran.

“Terah took Abram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife, and they went forth together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan, but when they came to Haran, they settled there.”Genesis 11:31 (ESV)

Terah died in Haran.

“The days of Terah were 205 years, and Terah died in Haran.”Genesis 11:32 (ESV)

Abram (Abraham), Son of Terah

Abram married Sarai.

And Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and Iscah.Genesis 11:29 (ESV)

Abram later fathered Isaac through Sarah.

The Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had promised. ² And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. ³ Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore him, Isaac.Genesis 21:1–3 (ESV)

Abram also fathered Ishmael through Hagar.

And Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.Genesis 16:15 (ESV)

Nahor, Son of Terah

Nahor married Milcah, the daughter of Haran.

 And Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and Iscah.Genesis 11:29 (ESV)

Nahor had sons through Milcah.

²⁰ Now after these things it was told to Abraham, “Behold, Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: ²¹ Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram, ²² Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.” ²³ (Bethuel fathered Rebekah.) Bethuel fathered Rebekah.

Nahor also had sons through his concubine Reumah.

Moreover, his concubine, whose name was Reumah, bore Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.Genesis 22:24 (ESV)

Haran, Son of Terah

Haran fathered Lot.

Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran fathered Lot.Genesis 11:27 (ESV)

Lot had two daughters who bore sons.

³⁶ Thus both the daughters of Lot became pregnant by their father. ³⁷ The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab. He is the father of the Moabites to this day.Genesis 19:36–37 (ESV)

³⁸ The younger also bore a son and called his name Ben-ammi. He is the father of the Ammonites to this day.Genesis 19:38 (ESV)

Moab became the father of the Moabites, and Ben-ammi became the father of the Ammonites.
