Amarula Chocolate Trifle Recipe

This simple recipe uses ready-made components for convenience.

Ingredients:

.Chocolate cake: 20x20cm square, cubed (store-bought or homemade)
.Custard: 1 liter, chilled (e.g., Ultra-mel brand)
.Amarula liqueur: 2-4 tots, for soaking the cake (optional)
.Cream: 500 ml, whipped
.Garnish: Flaked almonds or walnuts, and chocolate flakes (e.g., Cadbury Flake bars)
.Optional: Cherries

Method:

1. Prepare the base: Cut the chocolate cake into small chunks. Place a layer of these chunks at the bottom of a large glass trifle bowl.

2. Moisten: Drizzle the Amarula liqueur over the cake cubes.

3. Layer custard: Pour approximately half a liter of chilled custard evenly over the cake layer.

4. Add cream: Spread a layer of whipped cream over the custard, working from the outside in to ensure the layers are visible.

5. Garnish layers: Sprinkle a layer of chopped nuts and crumbled chocolate flakes over the cream.

6. Repeat: Repeat the layering process once more, starting with the remaining cake cubes, followed by Amarula, custard, cream, nuts, and chocolate flakes.

7. Chill: Refrigerate the trifle until you are ready to serve to allow the flavours to meld together.
