The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 4 alert for damaging winds and waves along the Western Cape coastline this weekend.

Strong winds are expected from Friday, 9 May, with a cold front bringing heavy rain to the Cape Winelands, Overberg, and the City of Cape Town on Saturday, 10 May.
Disaster Risk Management’s Sonica Lategan warned:

"Potential impacts from the forecast could include uprooted trees, damage to roofs, an increased risk of runaway fires and disruption of coastal activities. We urge residents to secure objects on their properties that could be carried away by the wind. When travelling, please be on the lookout for obstructions on the roadway, like fallen trees or other debris."

In case of weather-related emergencies, contact the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre on 021 480 7700.
