The Little Things

Life is not measured only
by the mountains that we climb,
or the grand and shining moments
that come only once in a while.

It lives within the little things
we sometimes overlook,
a smile across the breakfast table,
a story from a favourite book.

It’s hearing someone call your name
in that familiar, loving way,
a cup of tea, a occasional coffee,
and laughter all the way.

Jokes floating through the house
old stories told once more...
special memories of loved ones...
and footsteps at the door.

It’s sitting close without a word
and somehow feeling heard,
a hand that reaches out for yours - or foot -
without a single word.

Family is not perfect days
or photographs just right,
it's standing close through heavy storms
always by your side.

It’s knowing there are arms somewhere
that always feel like home,
and hearts that walk beside your own
wherever you may roam.

Happiness is often hiding
in ordinary days.
Sunday meals and silly jokes,
and countless quiet ways.

The birthdays and the holidays
are precious, bright and true,
but sometimes what we treasure most
is nothing grand at all to do.

Because one day we understand
what mattered from the start.
Not everything we gathered,
but the people in our heart.

So love your people loudly,
but love them quietly too.
Be there in all the ordinary things
that say, "I'm here for you."
