Uitenhage, officially renamed Kariega, is a prominent industrial town in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, located about 30 km from Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) along the Zwartkops River.
Often referred to as a “Garden Town,” it lies at the foot of the scenic Winterhoek Mountains.
Kariega is the powerhouse of the region’s automotive industry, home to the Volkswagen manufacturing plant—the largest of its kind in Africa—as well as the Goodyear tyre factory, making it a key contributor to South Africa’s industrial economy.
