The Price of a Handshake

The elders tell us, "The person who is a borrower is a servant to the lender."

As we move through 2026, the "Global Pretenders", the G7 nations, the World Bank, the IMF, have perfected the art of empire without the expense of an army. They do not need boots on the ground when they have auditors in the finance ministry. The new chains that bind the continent are not made of iron; they are made of spreadsheets, interest rates, and "Debt Sustainability Frameworks."

They call it "Development Finance." They call it "Fiscal Responsibility." But we must see it for what it is: a permanent mechanism for extraction and control.

"You can buy a dog with money, but you cannot buy its loyalty."

In 2026, the continent is a vast field of economic distress. Nations are spending more to service external debts than they spend on the basic health or education of their own children. The Rules-Based Order is not about law; it is about debt collection. It is a system designed to ensure that the Global South remains on a permanent treadmill, running faster and faster just to stay in the same place.

The hypocrisy is total. The Pretenders lend money they printed themselves, often at rates that ensure the borrower can never escape, and then demand "Austerity Measures" when the inevitable happens. They insist on the privatisation of water, electricity, and schools, forcing the poor to pay for the right to exist, all to service a debt incurred by despots who are long gone. They are like a doctor who forces a patient to pay for the disease.

"Even a fly that does not listen will follow a corpse into the grave."

We see the result in the rise of authoritarianism. As economic desperation grows, "democracy" becomes a luxury item no one can afford. The strongmen rise, promising "order" in exchange for absolute power, and the Pretenders are happy to shake their hands, provided the debt payments continue on schedule. The debt is the ultimate governour.

But a different kind of calculation is beginning in the townships and the villages.

"A single tree may be a forest to a monkey, but it is just one tree to the elephant."

The people are starting to realise that the "national debt" is not their debt. It is a fraudulent claim by a predatory system. They are questioning the legitimacy of a system that makes the rich richer and forces the poor to pay for the privilege of being exploited.

The "other world" is not waiting for a debt forgiveness program that will never arrive. She is found in the communal refusal to pay for the sins of the empire. She is found in the understanding that true sovereignty cannot be purchased with a loan.

"The wind cannot be caught in a net."

And in 2026, the people are deciding that their future will not be confined by the spreadsheets of the World Bank.
