The Auction of the Wind
The Auction of the Wind
The elders tell us, "The river that swallows the elephant does not feel the weight, but the elephant certainly does."
As we stand in 2026, the "Global Pretenders", the architects of the green boardrooms in London and New York, have invented a new and miraculous way to steal. Having already taken the gold, the diamonds, and the people, they have now set their sights on the sky. They call it "Carbon Credits." They call it "Debt-for-Nature Swaps." But we must call it by its true name: the privatisation of the atmosphere.
It is a masterpiece of imperial logic. The nations that have spent two centuries choking the planet with their smoke now turn to the Global South and say: "Your forests are no longer your own. They are 'Offsets.' Your mangroves are no longer part of your ecosystem. They are 'Assets.' Your air is no longer for breathing. It is for trading."
"A man who sells the air he breathes will soon find himself paying for the right to gasp."
We see a grotesque new map of the continent being drawn. It is not drawn with the clunky ink of the 1884 Berlin Conference, but with the invisible digital ink of the "Carbon Market." Huge swaths of land, forests that have been guarded by indigenous hands for millennia, are being fenced off. Not to protect the trees, but to allow a billionaire’s airline or a multi-national oil company to keep polluting.
They tell the farmer in the valley: "You must not cut a single branch to cook your porridge, for that tree now belongs to a bank in Frankfurt. It is 'balancing' the exhaust of a private jet in California."
This is the "Rules-Based System" at its most cynical. The polluter pays a fee, not to stop polluting, but to buy the right to continue. It is a medieval "Indulgence", a payment to the church of Capital to wash away the sin of ecocide. And who provides the "absolution"? The poor, who are now told that their only path to "development" is to become the janitors of the world’s carbon.
And what happens to the people who live on this "offset" land? They are being evicted in the name of "Conservation." They are being treated as "encroachers" on their own ancestral soil so that a carbon-trading firm can show a "clean" balance sheet to its shareholders.
"When the fox preaches, look to your geese."
The Empire of 2026 does not need to invade with soldiers to take your land. It only needs a "certified" satellite map, and a desperate government willing to sell the wind to pay a banker.
But let the Pretenders remember: The wind does not have a master. The rain does not read a contract. And the people of the soil are realising that you cannot eat a carbon credit, and you cannot hide from the rising heat behind a financial derivative.
We are being told that the "Market" will save the planet. But the Market is the fire that started the blaze. To ask the Market to save the planet is like asking a hyena to babysit a goat.
The "other world" we spoke of is not found in the carbon registries or the stock exchanges. She is found in the refusal to sell what is sacred. She is found in the understanding that the earth is not a "resource"..
